A Man who’s a Kid at Heart

St. Bonaventure University is a Franciscan University that strives on giving back to the community. Bona Buddies is able to tie the connection between the children of the neighboring town and students who want to help make a difference. Our organization helps children with their homework, provides healthy snacks, and promotes good behaviors. We achieve this by partnering with other St. Bonaventure clubs such as ROTC, Canvas for a Cure, and the Buzz. The smiles and feedback we get from the parents and children make it all worth it, and encourage us to continue to support an amazing cause.

Along with some of the other coordinators, we manage over 100+ people. Our objective is to make sure that the program is ran smoothly, efficiently, and effectively – all while having fun. We organize meetings with other clubs on campus and create plans to always have a new activity every week. Trained as first responders, we make sure that all kids are looked after and that everyone stays in a group. Children have always had a special place in my heart, and this program allowed me to help our local community.

Working with children my whole life, I knew that this program would have a special place in my heart – and it did. Dropping off the kids for the last time was one of the hardest things I have ever done. Working with children was not only therapeutic for me, but also taught me about tons of life skills. They ranged from patience and leadership, to compassion and friendship.
